Treat Tuesday: Yaky Charms!

I did it, I finally bought some Yaky Charms for the boys. They are just as marvelous as I imagined. Yaky Charms are made from yak milk, cow milk, lime juice, and salt. They are allergy-friendly dog treats for anyone who doesn't have issues with dairy products. The best part of Yaky Charms is, of course, that they come in a microwave popcorn bag so they can be popped in the microwave.

Note: Yaky Charms do not pop nearly as loud as popcorn, the sound is really quite faint, so don't turn away from the microwave and plan to just listen for the popping.

Good For: Capturing that biodegradable styrofoam packing peanut texture. Weirding the dogs out the first time they encounter them, "Wait, this is food?" Teaching dogs with poor eye-snout coordination how to catch. Making me giggle with glee every time I see them. At $3 a bag these are a really good deal, too.

Not Good For: Suspicious dogs who fear change. People who can't microwave popcorn without scorching it and also mind their kitchen smelling like burned yak.

How Much We Like Them: Enough that I can barely keep my awkward geek self in check. I want to tell everyone about Yaky Charms. I want to say the name over and over. Yaky Charms. Yaky Charms. Yaky Charms. The dogs like them, too.

  1. These are SO going in my next Chewy.com order! I do fall near the category of people who can't cook anything though, so I'll have to be careful. I can make toast without burning it. Usually. :D

  2. I was sad when what sounded like delicious Margarita popcorn turned out to be bland Styrofoam on my taste buds. What is it dogs are tasting that makes them go so insane? If stronger smelling is better, dogs should go into nuclear meltdown mode for doritos--do they?

    2. Yup, EKT is a real life friend, and was wondering how the Yaky Charms tasted after reading this post. Yak milk, lime, salt...sounds pretty tasty. They weren't. A lot of dog treats are really bland though, and my dogs don't consider doritos amazing.

    3. @Rachel @EKT Maybe dog's tastebuds are stronger/more plentiful then humans? I know babies' are. Anyway, that takes guts to try your dogs treats. :)

  3. Doritos aren't amazing to dogs?!? Impossibile!

Maybe it's the overwhelming salt smell, covering up all that delicious fat... What kind of stink makes them happiest? (cuz I can smell chips from a distance)--- is it the chip texture?

  4. I got these in my order today, and I'm wondering how to store them. It will probably take me 1-2 weeks to use up the bag. Any ideas? Thanks!

    1. I believe the bag says you can just roll down the top and store them like a bag of chips. I actually had the whole thing sitting open on my counter for over a week and they didn't appear to get stinky, stale, moldy, or change at all.
