Product Review: Auburn Leather Heirloom Old Glory Collar

The Heirloom Old Glory collar by Auburn Leathercrafters is a flat buckle collar with antiqued brass and nickel hardware. It is available in three colors and seven sizes to fit dogs with necks 11-26" around.

I love unique dog gear, and this collar is pretty unusual. See the stars? They alternate between brass and nickel, both aged to a lovely patina. Two colors of metal! I don't know why that makes me so happy, but it does. The buckle is brass, so it matches the hardware on my favorite leash.

As far as leather collars go, these are pretty nice mass-market products. The edges are all finishes, the collar is stitched and beautifully constructed. Aside from being a little stiff, it is comfortable without sharp edges. It is gorgeous and dignified and also apparently lasts forever.

Pros: Extremely durable, gets "broken in" rather than "worn out". Easy care leather, some people report that they stand up to a lot of abuse and don't need to be cleaned and cared for like fine leather.

Cons: If those stars ever loosen up, the points could potentially catch on blankets, clothing, and other dogs.

Bottom Line: If I had to pick only one collar to put on Brisbane and use every day, this would be an excellent choice.
