Treat Tuesday: Dog for Dog Dogstreat Mini

Dog for Dog makes their soft and chewy Dogstreat Minis in duck and peanut butter flavors. These little nuggets are a nice size for training treats. I like this company because they donate an equal amount of food to shelters when you buy their products. We haven't tried any of their dog food yet, but these treats are nice.
Dogstreat Minis

Good For:

  • Mid-value training treats
  • Dog with tiny mouths
  • Dogs with sensitive mouths or teeth
  • Dogs that need portion control

Not Good For:

  • High-value training treats, Sisci Godzilla actually started spitting them out after a while
  • Dogs with poultry, grain, or pork allergies, these things have a surprising number of ingredients

How Much We Like Them

I like to give Ru a few of these when I have to leave him behind to take the girls out to do real dog stuff.

TreatTuesday: Wellness Petite Treats

Wellness makes these little grain-free Petite Treats for small dogs, but they work especially well as training treats for any size dog. The soft treats come in turkey and lamb varieties. These stay moist for a while when exposed to air, and the dogs thing they are pretty awesome.
Tiny soft grain-free dog treats

Good For

  • High-value training treats
  • Carrying around in pockets for a few hours without going hard or crumbly
  • Small and picky dogs

Not Good For

  • Regular training sessions, they only come in very small bags.

How Much We Like Them

I've been taking these hiking when I think we're going to encounter a lot of trail traffic. Zip isn't crazy about treats, but she likes them enough to eat them on the go. Ru also think they're pretty awesome.

Treat Tuesday: Earthborn Holistic Earthbites

Earthborn makes these soft little sausage-shaped Earthbites that work well for training. These are grain-free mostly made out of chicken meal and peas. These also come in lamb, peanut, and cheese flavors. They're not terribly crumbly, and they break apart easily, which is nice because each bite is about six times the size I want for a training treat.
Soft meaty dog treats

Good For

  • High-value training treats
  • Riding around in a baggie in my pocket without going all crumbly

Not Good For

  • Staying moist for very long when exposed to air

How Much We Like Them

I used an entire bag of them on the trail while practicing tolerance of mountain bikers with Godzilla.

Treat Tuesday: Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Bits

Blue Buffalo's Wilderness Wild Bits are soft little cubes that are just the right size for training. Unlike many soft treats, these actually maintain their texture for hours when exposed to air. I don't care what kind of chemist wizardry is going on with that, these things are awesome. I'm not a fan of Blue Buffalo in general, they do a lot of shady things and basically all of their food is made out of chicken no matter what it says on the front of the bag. Still, their moist treats are hard to beat.
Wild Bits moist training treats that stay soft and don't dry up.

Good For

  • High-value training treats, they would be perfect if they were about half this size though
  • Shoving in Godzilla's mouth when passing a mountain biker on the trail
  • Staying soft and non-crumbly after hours in an open baggie in my pocket
  • Dogs with food allergies, these come in chicken, duck, salmon flavors and are made out of single protein sources plus potatoes and chickpeas. One of the very few Blue Buffalo products that isn't made out of chicken meal. (The crunchy biscuits are still made out of chicken meal, though.)

Not Good For

  • Dogs with potato or chickpea allergies

How Much We Like Them

I think I need to bring some of these with me every time we go hiking. Sisci Godzilla loves them, and they don't dry out and crumble. I mean, they probably would eventually, but these didn't after many hours.

Treat Tuesday: Caru Beef Recipe Bars

These soft, chewy Beef Recipe Bars by Caru are awesome for dogs that can't eat hard dog biscuits. These are very soft and moist, and they don't stink to high heaven either. The bars are very easy to tear into small pieces, and they can be rolled up to put inside a Kong toy. The bag is resealable, and the treats stayed moist and soft for more than two weeks after I opened the bag.

Good For: High value training treats. Dogs that have had recent mouth surgery and can't eat hard things. Dogs with allergies to anything other than beef, beets, cranberries, blueberries, or dairy products. Picky dogs. Staying soft and moist after the bag has been opened.

Not Good For: Forgetting in Kongs under the furniture.

How Much We Like Them: I really wish they made bigger bags of these.
